Hip Replacement and the Appalachian Trail

Thank you note from Dr. Hamilton’s bilateral hip replacement patient.

“I received two hip replacements from Dr. Bill Hamilton at the Anderson Clinic. One at the age of 47 (from the back – posterior) and one at the age of 54 (from the front – anterior). I was able to complete my career with the Fairfax County Police Department with full, normal retirement at the age of 59. Since 2017, I have been section hiking the Appalachian Trail. I just completed my final section of 605 miles from North Adams, Massachusetts to Mt. Katahdin, Maine at the age of 66. This completed the 2198 miles of the trail from Georgia to Maine. I was able to complete all my hiking sections, including this last section which was definitely the most difficult, without any problems with my hips or legs. Without the hip replacements, I would not have been able to complete my career as a full duty officer in patrol. In addition, I would never have been able to fulfill my dream of hiking the entire Appalachian Trail. Thank you for helping me live my best life. I hope my story can be an inspiration for anyone considering a hip replacement.”
