Dr. Michael Narvaez is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, hip arthroscopy, joint preservation, and fracture care. His expertise makes him a referral source for arthroscopic and open treatment of complex shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee injuries.

A former patient himself, Dr. Narvaez, tore the ACL in his left knee while playing football during high school. He underwent an ACL reconstruction using his patellar tendon, which gave him first-hand experience of the recovery and rehabilitation process following the surgery. Able to return to the field post-operatively, Dr. Narvaez played football at the University of Notre Dame, where he was awarded a varsity monogram and graduated with honors. Following his experience as a patient and student-athlete, Dr. Narvaez made it his goal to become an orthopaedic surgeon so that he could provide the same care to his patients and give them the ability to return to the activities they love.

A native of Ridgewood, NJ, Dr. Narvaez was introduced to living in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area while he completed his medical degree at the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He then completed his orthopaedic surgery residency training at the Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia, PA, where he served as administrative chief resident and was the winner of the 20th annual John R. Gregg Memorial Resident Bowl awarded by the Philadelphia Orthopaedic Society. Following residency, Dr. Narvaez completed his fellowship in sports medicine at the renowned Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, CA, where he participated in the care of high school, college, and professional athletes. While there, he served as an assistant team physician for the Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, Anaheim Ducks, LA Galaxy, and Los Angeles Sparks. Additionally, he put his college loyalty aside and served as an assistant team physician for the University of Southern California (USC) football team.

Dr. Narvaez has extensive training in treating all sports-related injuries and general orthopaedic conditions, with special interests in hip arthroscopy, joint preservation, UCL injuries (Tommy John surgery), rotator cuff repair, shoulder instability, and complex knee ligament reconstruction. He is dedicated to furthering the field of orthopaedics and sports medicine through his presentations at several local and national conferences and publications in multiple peer-reviewed journals. Furthermore, Dr. Narvaez is the American Journal of Sports Medicine editor. An active member of multiple orthopaedic societies, he has been recognized as a member of the Emerging Leader Program by the American Orthopaedic Association.

In his free time, Dr. Narvaez enjoys golfing, spending time with his family, hiking, traveling, cooking (and eating), and Notre Dame football. He is happily married (Courtney), and they are excited to establish their roots in the Northern Virginia area.
