John Albrigo decided on a medical career at an early age. He delivered his first scientific paper while still in high school as part of a program for gifted students presented to Cornell University. He earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from Georgetown University and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the State University of New York at Syracuse where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
He completed his internship and residency at Yale University School of Medicine. While at Yale, Dr. Albrigo participated in the first hip and knee replacement operations. Since then, he has specialized in total joint replacement and reconstruction, conducting research and collaborating efforts on the development of minimally invasive techniques. Dr. Albrigo performs hundreds of hip and knee surgeries per year making him one of the most sought-after surgeons in the area.
Dr. Albrigo is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and is currently Chairman of the Department of Surgery as well as Medical Director of the Joint Replacement Program at Inova Alexandria Hospital. “Restoring quality of life through joint replacement for the arthritic patient and severely injured athlete is the greatest source of satisfaction to me,” he comments. When he is not treating patients, conducting research or presenting papers, Dr. Albrigo enjoys his family, the great outdoors and playing golf.
